Unreal Engine 4.22 Adds DirectX Raytracing Support

Until now, the only games utilizing DirectX Raytracing (DXR) were Battlefield V and today’s Metro: Exodus. DXR is about to become a lot more accessible with the latest version of the game development kit from Epic, Unreal Engine 4.22, allowing developers to incorporate ray tracing into games. This isn’t quite full blown, 100% ray tracing, but a massive step towards it.

The latest development with the launch of the upcoming GeForce GTX 1660 Ti is a sighting of the MSI GTX 1660 Ti GAMING X and MSI GTX 1660 Ti ARMOR. The GTX 1660 Ti is a Turing-based card that lacks RTX and comes in at 1,536 CUDA cores, as opposed to the 2,304 seen on the RTX 2060.

Navi is a 7 nm refesh of the Graphics Core Next architecture, which itself has already evolved multiple times since its initial appearance as the 28 nm architecture seen on the Radeon HD 7000 graphics cards. Initially speculated to release somewhere around the middle of the year, there is now rumour of release being pushed back somewhat.

SuperMicro is not a name generally associated with anything other than servers, even though they didn’t completely leave the desktop market. Truth be told, they even have Intel Z390 motherboards such as the SuperMicro C9Z390-PGW. Back in 1993, Intel released the successor to the i486, the Pentium. Originally to be called the i586, Intel was facing the problem of rivals using the same naming scheme as them and were unsuccessful in trademarking 586 due to it being a string of numbers. To combat this, Intel approached Legicon Branding, a branding firm behind the likes of Apple’s PowerBook and Adobe’s InDesign, who came up with the name Pentium. Penta being five (with the Pentium being the fifth iteration of x86 CPU), and -ium being the suffix found with many elements on the periodic table. With Intel deeming the processor to be a key element in a PC, the Pentium brand was born.
